Washington DC

This post is mainly consisting out of pictures that I took myself, simply because I went to DC by myself:) It is only 2 hours by car away from Richmond which is why I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to visit the capital of the US once again.

I left the house at 6 am to avoid the traffic. I really love driving especially around here since all the streets are much bigger and I don’t know I just really like driving🤷🏼‍♀️ I realized that another benefit of this Gap Year is the international driving experience that I’m gaining right now. Driving in America is definitely different, not is especially confusing when you haven’t figured out if there are the same rules as in Germany before you get in the car (a mistake I did). For example there is no “right before left” or it´s even allowed to pass cars on the free way on the right side which is illegal at home. Then I saw people turning right while the street light was red?  but meanwhile I know that a red light is just seen as a stop sign if you want to turn right😅 So all in one now I can say that I’m prepared for whenever I will be able to drive again in America.

I parked at a metro station 40 mins away from DC because I really didn’t want to get in the traffic of such a big city. So I took the metro to the city centre and walked to many sights. DC definitely has a lot of them, which makes it such a pretty city

I really loved the street lights🤗

I really wanted to see the Library of Congress from the inside since it is the biggest one in the world but of course I went to the capital of the US when there was a day of mourning for Georg W. Bush who has passed away this week. Surprise surprise, the library was closed. But I still got some pictures from the outside:

I also saw the Capitol:

The Supreme Court:

The Columbus Circle in front of the Union Metro Station where I had to take a break from the freezing cold weather❄️⛄️

Then I made my way through the City Center:

I saw the Treasure Department…

and a squirrel🐿 Around here you will find many more than in Germany , it´s not really special to see one but I luckily met a patient one that didn’t run away from my camera🤷🏼‍♀️

I went to the Washington Monument…

…the World War II Memorial…

and of course the famous Lincoln Memorial.

On the way to the next Metro Station I walked over the Arlington Memorial Bridge and had a great view on the skyline:After that I went to Southwest Washington and grabbed something to eat before I made a stop at the Pentagon City Shopping Centre. After two hours of successful shopping, I took the Metro back to the parking lot where I left the car. And guess who needed A WHOLE HOUR to find the car because she was so sure she would find the car easily without remembering in which area she left the car or at least the level🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m not sure if I had ever been more desperate than in that moment, but at least I wont make that mistake again (hopefully). After finally finding the car I made my way back home:)
